OUR MISSION is

to save surplus from going to waste

Our produce is sourced from surplus, which means fruit and veg overbought by the wholesale market, that’s less likely to be sold and used, so you’re saving it from going to waste.

to support local organisations fighting food poverty

Every time you buy a StreetBox, we give fresh, surplus produce to a charitable organisation helping to fight food poverty, check out our community page to see those we work with.

So why is surplus food going to wastE?

There has always been a surplus of fruit and veg, but traditionally local high-street greengrocers sold it.

Lots of factors have contributed to more surplus going to waste. The decline of the traditional high-street, a move towards online shopping with larger supermarkets, the pandemic and a slow return to our shops and food businesses - to name a few! And all these have contributed to access to surplus produce decreasing, and lots of perfectly fresh and edible food going to waste.

This means the wholesale markets are now oversupplied and ultimately this lovingly grown food - tons and tons of it - could be destined for landfill.

Our resident Veg Master/Chief Banana/Head Veggie - Chris, who has worked with fresh produce most of his life as part of his family’s established greengrocer business, saw this issue with oversupply and wondered what could be done about it.

so how do we save this food?

During lockdown, Chris saw an opportunity to assist organisations working on the COVID-19 relief effort by giving them access to good produce, that would otherwise have gone to waste - and so StreetBox was created.

We’re partnered with Edible London, an organisation whose mission is to end food poverty, and support their local and wider communities by enabling everyone to eat a more nutritious diet. With over 40 charitable beneficiaries in our combined network, we’re distributing surplus fruit and veg to those most in need and your support means we can continue to do so.

so where do you come in?

Our solution is simple - you buy a bountiful fruit and veg box from us, crammed full of delicious and under loved surplus produce, and we give another box to organisations fighting food poverty and promoting healthier and more nutritious lifestyles in and around London town.

This way you can get your 5 a day and help someone else to get theirs as well!

We’re now a registered Community Interest Company (CIC) which means we’re a social enterprise dedicated to using our profits and assets for the public good.

So why not help us, help you, and others, to live healthier, more sustainable, and environmentally friendly lives.

Sound good?
